There are time when you need to continuously develop, deploy and test your web application or rest services in java domain. If you are using any external application server (one not configured with your IDE), first you have to create war file and then make the deployment. This will kill some expensive development time of yours. There is nothing to worry. Today we are going to see the detailed steps one need to configure JBoss application server with Eclipse IDE. We will set up jboss-eap-7.1 in Eclipse Oxygen IDE.
- Jboss EAP 7.1.0: If you don’t have the suggested jboss version already in your system, download it from the office redhat site. In order to download, you need to have account on redhat site. Its completely free to register. Click download Jboss EAP, then click on View Older Downloads, search for 7.1.0 version and click on Zip File to begin the download. Once downloaded, extract the zip file in your preferred location.
- Eclipse Oxygen EE: If you don’t have eclipse IDE as well, you can directly download the eclipse installer. Follow this guide to download and install eclipse (select “Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers” package to install). I have “eclipse-jee-oxygen-M2-win32” already installed in my machine.
Set Up Jboss EAP 7.1.0 in Eclipse Oxygen IDE
To allow Eclipse to manage JBoss Application Server, follow the below steps.
- Start an instance of your Eclipse IDE.
- Click on Window > Preferences.
- Expand the Server list, and click Runtime Environments.
- In the Server Runtime Environments dialog, click Add.
- In the New Server Runtime Environment dialog, expand Red Hat JBoss Middleware and click on Jboss AS, WildFly & EAP Server Tools.
- Hit the Next button, it will validate requirements for installation. Accept the license and hit the Finish button.
- Check the progress bar in your eclipse for installation. If you are presented with a security warning about unsigned content, ignore it by clicking OK.
- Once the server adapter is installed, click Yes to restart Eclipse.
- Once your Eclipse IDE is restarted, click on Servers tab and click on the link given to integrate jboss eap 7.1.
- In New Server dialog, choose JBoss AS 7.1 and hit Next button.
- Again click on the Next button. Now Browse to the home directory where your jboss-eap-7.1 folder lies. Click on Alternate JRE radio button and hit Next button.
- Now you are asked to Add and Remove the resources (basically war files in your present workspace). If you wish to configure any resource, simply click on the given war file and click on the add button. Otherwise you can just click Finish button.
- In the Servers tab, find your newly configured jboss server waiting for deployment.
